The word Ardas is derived from the Persian word 'Arazdashat', denoting a request, a supplication, a prayer, a petition, or an appeal to a higher authority. It holds significant importance in Sikh practices, performed prior to or following any major endeavor, after the recitation of daily Banis (prayers), or upon the conclusion of spiritual services such as Paath, kirtan (hymn-singing), or other religious ceremonies. In Sikhism, these prayers are also traditionally recited before and after meals. The Ardas is a heartfelt entreaty to seek divine support and guidance for the devotee's endeavors.
